1 Peter 4:10

Each one, as a good manager of God’s different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from God.

http://bible.us/1Pet4.10.GNTUK-EN

This always bothered me…what if I don’t understand what gift(s) God gave me? In my heart, though, I always knew that the time will come that I’ll just know…it did. It took 45 years, but it happened. My gift is serving…something I’ve done my whole life, but never realized was, in fact, a gift from God. I thought everyone is like me; that giving is part of the human condition. Then I went through a stage where I began to see I was SO wrong…people are takers and users by nature, not givers. They will drain those who give until the last drop of kindness has been used up, then they’ll sit back and demand more, more, more. Now I’m grateful to know that God intended me to give, I understand the calling finally. I just hope I don’t disappoint. Sent via my BlackBerry from Vodacom – let your email find you!

2 Peter 1:20+21

20 Above all else, however, remember that no one can explain by himself or herself a prophecy in the Scriptures.
21 For no prophetic message ever came just from human will, but people were under the control of the Holy Spirit as they spoke the message that came from God. http://bible.us/2Pet1.20.GNTUK-EN

So much for those amongst us who dare to ‘explain’ scripture. I’ve always found it fascinating, you know, the way people try to pull apart the meaning of words in the Bible; and then becoming seriously upset when you dare to disagree with their interpretations.
My opinion is this; God uses His Word as a tool to communicate with His children. Each of those children are unique, with their own ideas, morals, perceptions and character. As with any group, the message needs to be appropriately understandable for the receiver and each person will receive the words in a different manner; perceiving the ‘hidden’ meaning in different ways. Each one will get out of this message what he needs to hear.
When I read the Bible, for instance, I interpret certain texts in some way or another; receiving a message meant just for me. These words will mean something entirely different to someone else, giving him another message; one that he can use in his life. In my view, this is how God deals with us. The Bible is always meaningful, but the meaning is different for each individual.
Many people will disagree, of course they will….some even wrote books explaining what the Bible really means to say. They are welcome to their ideas, as long as they allow me to come to my own conclusions!
The scripture above hints toward this same thesis …the Holy Spirit opens your eyes to see the message clearly. You cannot claim to know anything, unless you allow the Spirit to lead you. Trust me, the Word meant for you will come if you allow this. Sent via my BlackBerry from Vodacom – let your email find you!

1 Peter 4:7-11

Good Managers of God’s Gifts

7 The end of all things is near. You must be self-controlled and alert, to be able to pray.
8 Above everything, love one another earnestly, because love covers over many sins. 9 Open your homes to each other without complaining.
10 Each one, as a good manager of God’s different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from God.
11 Whoever preaches must preach God’s messages; whoever serves must serve with the strength that God gives, so that in all things praise may be given to God through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and power for ever and ever. Amen.

This was the week-end…

I finally got to have a nice sit-down with my good friend Tony Hill, psychologist/profiler, today. Oh yes…they finally came! My DVD collection of Wire in the blood. I just love it! It’s a little like a British CSI…but not quite…just good storytelling by the wonderful Val McDermid and fantastic acting by Robson Green and Hermione Norris. One of the most electrifying shows I’ve seen in a long time.
I do SO love those British detectives…Midsommer Murders with the cousins Barnaby and DS Jones…another favorite; and Law and order UK..I don’t know, its somehow more ‘elegant’ than the American copper-shows.
Anyway, today I took the day off and just settled down with these DVD’s…I’m not done just yet, but I’ll get there eventually. Its been a very busy week and I’m totally bushed. Tomorrow its back to the same old-same old mill again, so I needed to get as much as possible out of this one single day. Sometimes I just wish I had more hands…some of which I’ll use to keep my mind from wandering too far. It really sucks to be the kind of person I am sometimes. I so wish I could ask for help, but its simply not in my nature. I don’t ever wait for things to happen, I MAKE it happen…and then everything must be just-so too. People laugh at me…especially when they see the inside of my grocery cupboard…labels to the front, stuff arranged by type and packets of sauces and spices arranged alphabetically in separate small, wooden boxes. Its really sick. My kids also think its insane…clothes arranged by season and colour; shoes sort-by-sort and two by two…I scare myself sometimes. Simple things…just look at my weekly general cleaning schedule and the rigorous way I keep to it…hell, its frightening! Mondays…sweeping and spotting smudges on floors day, also laundry day and dusting day, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are shopping and project days, Thursdays…mopping and vacuuming + laundry, Fridays…dusting, polishing, change bed linen + laundry, Saturdays – ironing…you see!!! I get VERY upset if anything interferes with this schedule…and I do mean UPSET! Gosh, I’m such a control freak!
I must say, it felt incredibly good to just do nothing today…I know that my obsessions often get the better of me and it really wears me out, but I also know that, by nature, I’ll simply die if I have to sit around doing nothing. Busy hands are, after all, happy hands!
Well, I’m going to bed now and I’ll try not to dream of all new and creative ways of arranging my canned goods in the kitchen! Rather dream of Robson Green! Ordinary looking, but oh such a DUDE!!! Goodnight unknown friends of mine. May God keep you safe!

Helix Nebula – Unraveling at the Seams

A dying star is throwing a cosmic tantrum in this combined image from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope and the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX), which NASA has lent to the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. In death, the star’s dusty outer layers are unraveling into space, glowing from the intense ultraviolet radiation being pumped out by the hot stellar core.
