In Memoriam 2012: Notable passings in the world of entertainment.

I looked through these pic’s and had to blink away the tears…those sweet memories came flooding back:

Whitney’s clear voice ringing in my ears and I just knew that, yes, I WILL indeed always love her; my pain and sadness at her early, unnecessary demise and my tears at her funeral with Kevin Costner’s moving eulogy…..

Michael Clark Duncan – I heard of his heart attack earlier this year and contacted him via Twitter, giving him a word of encouragement on behalf of his South African fans….I do hope he received it and that he knew in that broken heart of his that somewhere, very far in the Southern hemisphere, somebody was thinking of him. He lost the battle, and we lost a wonderful actor….a man whom I always will see as John Coffey….the miracle worker in The Green Mile. I will remember his deep, rumbling voice, although it is now quiet forever and his smile. He seemed so invincible.

Jack Klugman….our Quincy, the guy that inspired a love for forensics at a time when CSI did not exist. I recall watching him and his co-conspirator, Sam, on all their very energetic and interesting endeavors and wishing I could have a job just like that. I can still see in my minds’ eye how he spoke, how he could get carried away about the smallest detail…..he was VERY good at his job (the acting part, I mean!).

Ernest Borgnine was a fixture on television and the silver screen for as long as I can remember. I saw him first in Hart to Hart with Stefanie Powers and Robert Wagner. Ernie was the butler and close advisor to the Harts…..I just adored him! In later years he always featured as the kindly old grandfather, but he always had that endearing qualities that made you fall in love despite the age difference. The last time I saw him in action was with the Golden Globes, where he received an award……still up and about, still charming, even at that age….we’ll miss you Ernie.

Finally, the last real special one for me was Larry Hagman….oh yes, I was the girl who insisted on carrying around a canvas bag with the words ‘I SHOT JR’ printed on it. Gosh, I despised-loved-hated-cursed-adored-admired him…..could never decide, but I knew that Dallas would not have been the same (and probably will never be the same, ever) without his presence. He was the one that actually kept everyone together, be it together in their mutual resentment of his character – he was a charismatic man; behind the scenes, in front of the cameras…..I am sorry he is gone, he was one of the greatest bad guys ever.

There are still many more; I remember them all, Donna Summer, Gore Vidal, Ray Bradbury, Norah Ephron….people whom have made some kind of difference in my views of the world and at many times, myself. I think this is the wonderful thing of being a celebrity. It is both dangerous and marvelous…..you touch lives of people you never meet; people who let you into your house, without you actually going there…..it is powerful, don’t you think? As we say goodbye to these people, I just hope that their memories, their influences in our lives will change us in a positive way and that the new generation of actors and other celebrity figures do realize their responsibilities towards the millions of fans out there. You guys are in the position to make a true difference, you have the power to bring change by doing remarkable things. In many ways, I think they are today’s superheroes…..and they need to choose how to use their superpower.

Those of you in the know, will remember that 13 is my lucky number….everything significant in my life has always been associated with this unfortunate number. I was born 13-3-67(6+7=13), I started dating my husband 13-01-85 (8+5=13), I got married on 26 (2×13=26)-11-88…always something like this. Hotel rooms over the world…always 13 or 2013 or something like that. Weird, huh….anyway, I do hope then that this year will be a good one for me. The past 9 years or so has been a horror story (one after the other). 2012 was indeed better, so hopefully 2013 will surpass by hopes and dreams. I have a lot planned for the new year…my charities and my practice are growing; I’m expanding to other arms of the do-good-arena and hope to get involved in Reach for a Dream and Cansa this year as well as some hospice work. I cannot wait for everything to kick off!

Now that my young son is in grade 7 and really old enough to take more and more care of himself and Tyla in grade 2, I do hope that my time will be more my own, more to reach out to others. Because THAT is my biggest dream….I want to make a difference in the lives of others, I want to uplift them and help them to see hope in the future….that’s all, actually. No more, no less….just as simple as that. I hope, I pray, I dream….and yes, I believe, I will do this.

God bless all of you who reads this….keep you safe during the coming year and may all your own hopes and dreams come true; may you have success in all your ventures and keep on believing in yourself, your own abilities and learn to recognize your own strengths…use it and….perhaps more importantly, be kind to each other. A little nice never hurt anyone. Imagehe

9-10 And so they left, and on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the east. When they saw it, how happy they were, what joy was theirs! It went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.

……and today, more than 2000 years later, I hope we realise that our only hope, our single source of joy, can still be found when we follow that star; may Jesus be the Light that leads us towards our own salvation.
