Just let it go

I heard something today while visiting my sister-in-law who is recovering after an operation. We were talking about worries; worries about children, health, home, work and so forth. I don’t think anyone is a stranger to worry.

I myself worry a lot…my kids and their school work, their relationships, their future….I worry about my husband, his struggle with depression, his health, his work-anxieties, finances, ….everything seems to trouble me these days. Not to mention the constant fear of crime in our lawless country….where criminals act as if murder and theft is ‘just a job’ and where the victims will be arrested for defending themselves.

But…I’m digressing….what I wanted to say tonight is that my sis-in-law said that we worry so much because we’ve forgotten how to have faith. How right she is. From experience I know that giving your troubles over to God brings so much peace in your heart. Perhaps we all should stop worrying so much, perhaps we should trust God completely and practice faith as an art so that we can experience the peace and tranquility that God intended for us when He gave us the life of His Son, Jesus Christ. We should never doubt God, we must only believe. God says that we will be saved by faith alone.
You may ask: but how does one get this true faith…you can’t. You have to make a decision to hand over your fears, anxieties and worries and trust God to deal with it. Stop nagging Him about it, stop wondering ‘when’….just believe that He hears each prayer and will help you experience ultimate peace as long as you have faith.

Psalm 3:1-8:
‘Morning Prayer for Help

1 I have so many enemies, Lord,
so many who turn against me!
2 They talk about me and say,
“God will not help him.”
3 But you, O Lord, are always my shield from danger; you give me victory and restore my courage. 4 I call to the Lord for help,
and from his sacred hill he answers me.
5 I lie down and sleep, and all night long the Lord protects me. 6 I am not afraid of the thousands of enemies who surround me on every side. 7 Come, Lord! Save me, my God!
You punish all my enemies and leave them powerless to harm me. 8 Victory comes from the Lord –
may he bless his people.

Why did it take so long….

….for me to realize my true calling? I’ve always known that mine would be a life of service. Ever since I was a child I always reached out to people who seem odd, unacceptable and outright weird…the outcasts, if you will. I never was part of the ‘it’ group….they made me uncomfortable with all their expensive clothes, well-to-do parents and air of ‘I’m better than you’. I guess I put them off too, because I used to make a point of befriending the ‘nutters’ and the ‘nerds’.
Anyhow, today I completed an application to become a volunteer at Reach for a dream and they pointedly ask, why do I wish to get involved? First reaction….why NOT! Why would anybody NOT want to help. But this made be think…why on earth am I swamping myself with all these charities? I really enjoy it, but really….its kind of obsessive. Almost as if I’m making up for lost time. Yes, well, perhaps thats the reason, perhaps not. Thing is….I finally found something I’m good at, really good at ….I found my destiny.

I’m currently reading day 2 of NIV Once-A-Day Bible for Women. To join in and read along go to:

God’s Chosen King

1 Why do the nations plan rebellion? Why do people make their useless plots? 2 Their kings revolt,
their rulers plot together against the Lord and against the king he chose.
3 “Let us free ourselves from their rule,” they say; “let us throw off their control.” 4 From his throne in heaven the Lord laughs and mocks their feeble plans. 5 Then he warns them in anger
and terrifies them with his fury.
6 “On Zion, my sacred hill,” he says, “I have installed my king.” 7 “I will announce,” says the king, “what the Lord has declared. He said to me: ‘You are my son;
today I have become your father.
8 Ask, and I will give you all the nations; the whole earth will be yours.
9 You will break them with an iron rod; you will shatter them in pieces like a clay pot.’ ”
10 Now listen to this warning, you kings; learn this lesson, you rulers of the world: 11 Serve the Lord with fear;
12 tremble and bow down to him;
or else his anger will be quickly aroused, and you will suddenly die. Happy are all who go to him for protection.

Genesis 1:31

God looked at everything he had made, and he was very pleased. Evening passed and morning came – that was the sixth day.

Psalms 1-41

True Happiness

1 Happy are those
who reject the advice of evil people, who do not follow the example of sinners or join those who have no use for God. 2 Instead, they find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord,
and they study it day and night.
3 They are like trees that grow beside a stream,that bear fruit at the right time, and whose leaves do not dry up. They succeed in everything they do.
4 But evil people are not like this at all; they are like straw that the wind blows away. 5 Sinners will be condemned by God and kept apart from God’s own people.
6 The righteous are guided and protected by the Lord, but the evil are on the way to their doom.

The question I ask when reading these scriptures is: Would God still be pleased with us in these evil days? Is God pleased with me? With you? What do you think? Look at your life, I look at mine and I wonder. Sometimes I think God has given up on me, not that I don’t try…but I fail so often. Perhaps it is time now to remember how Jesus brings forgiveness within our grasp. Without the possibility of redemption, mankind is indeed doomed. Hello again

Gosh, I’ve been so distracted these past few weeks. Inbetween my housework, my projects and the children I hardly found time or space for anything. Last week was such a huge disappointment….I had a teensy bout of depression again and had to battle it with what little strength I could muster. Thankfully it is over now and the ‘storm is passing’. This coming week will see me finalizing many things and I just pray for the wisdom and wit to do all I have to. SSB has taken off nicely and I’m negotiating for space to be used as drop-off in October. It feels good to be actively involved with something so huge. Annebel is still going strong too and my 2nd meeting with the girls will be held next Monday. I feel blessed to be able to help so many…perhaps this is what my purpose in life is after all. Well, its off to bed now. Early night for the first time in a long while, so I need to embrace it! Sleep well friends and God bless!
