Psalm 68:20

Verse:       Psalm 68:20

‘Our God is a God who saves! The Sovereign Lord rescues us from death.’

– Your God is the One who wants to save and rescue you.
– He wants to lift you out of the pit of despair.
– He wants to pick you up out of the miry clay.
– He wants to rescue you and place your feet on the Rock.

PRAYER: Lord, You are the One who can come and pick me up and out of those things that try to bring me down. Move in my situation I pray. Amen.

@robinwilliams #CelebrityDeaths

I rarely cry over celebrities….although I’m very INTO entertainment and the magic it provides. Deaths of my favorite actors and producers are usually felt with the same loss and heartache as if they were close family, but the last time I reacted strongly (meaning tears and near hysterics), was upon hearing news of Michael Clark Duncan’s passing (the gentle giant from ”The Green Mile”). But Robin Williams, no he was my main man….I simply adored him. His talent, his gift was unique. To me he seemed  like an ordinary person; someone, not so far removed from the ”real” people, approachable even. One could identify with him. We all knew about the demons he battled and that made him more of a ordinary, garden variety, human being. Yet still, we missed something…..we didn’t stop to think (or ask)….is he REALLY fine? What is he hiding behind that well-known grin?

Since the beginning of the celebrity fever actors have been made into gods…lifted above the general public, iconised, if you will. But they all have (and had) their troubles – think of Marilyn Monroe for one. We only saw what their representatives wanted us to see…..the beautiful, smiling, happy, well-dressed and coiffed to perfection, mask. Even the very words they speak in public are often scripted to suit this exterior image. It is so very sad that they cannot just, for a minute, BE themselves without fear of being splashed all over the tabloids; words like ”melt-down” and ”freaked out” accompanying their names in huge, red economy sized letters.

Our Mr Williams always seemed ecstatic, happy, hilarious….I think we should have known better. Who knows the troubles he had, who ever thought they should ask him if they can lend a hand. We lost a great man yesterday….someone who, not only made wonderful movies, but, in my opinion (I, of course didn’t know him personally) was an inspiration to us simply because he sometimes gave us a peek into the ”real person”. He wasn’t afraid to tell the truth about his struggles with addiction, for instance…but still we chose to see only the ”funny fella”… Perhaps this just proves that the world has become even more ignorant than we thought. We see what we want to see.

Just yesterday evening I was watching a program on television about the 10 most iconic stars of our time. I actually said to my husband how sad it was that we raise these people to the status of gods….we worship them and flutter around when we meet them in person. However, we forget that they are only doing a job…instead of going to work and sit behind a desk all day, they go to work, dress-up and act….it is JUST A JOB. They are, in fact, just PEOPLE…people like us, with problems and issues and aches and pains and sorrow…they worry, like us. The loss of this great one proves my point…and, I’m actually embarrassed to say, we did NOTHING to help…simply because we chose to see the icon, the ”god” and NOT the real person behind the mask.

The world has indeed become ruthless….we build an image of a person and when they do not adhere to the rules of said image, we judge them and bring them down….what right do we have to do that? Why aren’t we a little bit more sympathetic?

I am SO sorry about Robin Williams and, despite the fact that I never met the man, my first thought was…”I couldn’t save him”. Fact is, I wonder if anyone bothered….or did they think he will just giggle his way out of depression? Did any one of his millions of fans EVER stop to think that he may be in trouble?

So, next time when you read about a ”celebrity melt-down” or a ”celebrity sent to rehab”….please don’t judge and remember…..they promised to entertain us, they NEVER promised that they will lead perfect lives…..so be kind, be compassionate and grow a heart! And ask yourself….am I perfect?

Verse:       Psalm 91:14

‘Because he loves me,’ says the Lord, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name.’

– When we give God first place in our lives, there are many benefits.
– Here, God Himself speaks and makes a promise to you and me.
– The promise is one guaranteeing rescue and protection.
– So let us love Him with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength.

PRAYERLord, I declare my love for You, oh Lord. You are the one true, living God. You are the desire and the longing of my heart and soul. Amen.

I had the most wonderful afternoon with you guys today. Thinking about the good old days, the experiences, the laughter and tears we shared; the catching up….but MOST of all, just being with you again. Seeing your familiar faces, hearing your familiar voices ….the years fell away and it was as if we just picked up where we left off all those many moons ago.

I wish I had the words to describe how full of happiness and joy my heart is at this moment….what a privilege to know that, even though we’ve grown older (and hopefully wiser), you are still part of my life.

Thank you Ettian and Erika…..you’ve made life and all its trials and tribulations bearable.

God bless and………….THANKS!
