This morning I woke up with a cat by my feet. It’s nothing new, but it reminded me to appreciate having my beautiful furface with me.

Me and hubby are on our own today, a treat, as the kids are off to visit friends. Well, while they visit THEIR buddies, I’m enjoying time with my own bestie….Riaan, husband of 30 years and friend for 34 years.

I am grateful to have him in my life. Don’t think anyone understands me better than him.

Oh, and I’m getting a haircut today! Long overdue. I’m VERY stingy when it comes to spending money on myself.

I’m also going to buy wool for baby Olivia’s mobile. Must get to that before she turns 20! 😂

How wonderful to have a lovely day like this, be healthy and happy and to have people who love you.

Today I’m grateful for the cooler weather. It’s overcast and a relief from the seething heat we had over the past weeks.

I am also thankful for my children. I rarely think about it, especially through those stormy days when they became difficult and the mothering took its toll. But they are my miracles, each a gift from God.

I wasn’t supposed to have children, you know, all the doctors agreed. Then Rèmond came along and later, at age 32, I had Tristan. Tyla was entrusted to us by God Himself. Adopting her was a command we could not ignore.

So, today I thank God for my three miracles. He was right there during every tearful moment, helped carry every load, soothed every worry and made us brave during storms. He was also there for every joyful event, every fun day, every giggle and every achievement.

What are you grateful for today?

I thought this was hilarious! If books had feelings, eh? Well, who says they don’t?!

How do you feel about books made into movies?? I don’t have anything against it, as long as the scriptwriters stay true to the book. Very often they don’t, though, they mangle the story so much that , to the reader, it becomes unrecognisable.

I must say, I recently saw such a ‘mangling’ and it was actually brilliant. Have you watched ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ on Netflix yet? You should. It is FANTASTIC!

There are similarities to Shirley Jackson’s book, a lot if it, in fact, but it is a completely different story. I’ve the ‘The Haunting’ back in 1999, remember the one with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta Jones? Plus, I’ve read the book. ‘The Haunting’ was the book in pictures, but this new miniseries, WOW, it is absolutely fantastic.

If you haven’t watched it yet, please do. You will be pleasantly surprised, I guarantee it.

Visit Netflix today! Click here.

We tend to complain a lot, don’t we. We write blogposts and articles about our unhappiness, how to deal with it and how to create joy.

The truth is, however, that while we are so busy being grumpy and looking for the wrong things in our lives, we completely miss the good and we MISS OUT on wonderful experiences as well.

Today I want you to set aside your pain, sorrow, problems and cares. Forget about finances or the exams or that bad experience you had in the past. AND LOOK AROUND YOU.

Take a minute or two and just SEE what you have, what has already been given to you. I will tell you what I am grateful for:

  • I’m grateful to be alive and able to see and hear everything, perhaps not as well as I did 10 years ago, but still, it is a true blessing.
  • I’m thankful that I can worship God openly, without fear of persecution and that I have received His forgiveness for my wrongdoings.
  • I’ve been blessed with a family; a husband, three children and a new granddaughter. We love each other unconditionally and know we can depend on each other always.
  • I have the ability to reach out to people and listen to them. That is a gift I rarely appreciate, but I am ever so thankful for that. I love doing the work, the talking therapy, writing my blogs and books, reaching out to less fortunate people in the community…..it fulfills me.
  • I have a house, food on my table, running water and electricity. We have cars, money to buy medicine when we’re ill, we have luxuries like wifi, Netflix, dvd-players, cell phones, etc. We are truly blessed.
  • I have peace in my heart that everything will work out, even it seems wrong at the moment.

Why don’t you try to write down what you are grateful for? Try to do it every day and you will soon see a shift in your perception of your life. You will no longer feel that you are carrying an enormous load on your shoulders and your problems will seem smaller, more insignifant.

Let me know how it went. Share your gratitude with me. Click here to send an email.

I’ve been anticipating this movie since FOREVER! Not particularly a slasher movie fan, but since that first Halloween in 1978, I’ve been hooked on Michael Myers.

He’s just so…errrr…undead? Unkillable? I LOVE it! I don’t think there is any other famous slasher king, meaning Freddy or Jason or that bloke from the ‘Last Summer‘-movies, that evokes such feelings of sympathy, horror and pure evil. You read correctly, I said ‘sympathy’. I feel sorry for him, you know. If you watch the prequel, where it all began, you will understand. Poor Mike didn’t stand a chance with the type of background and the horrid stepdad he had.

Oh, and by the way, even back then, being a born and raised horror fanatic, I made the Sam_Loomis connection with Psycho. I don’t care if it was the intention of the writers or just coincidence, I made the connection and believed it was ‘meant to be’.  Crazy as it may sound.

Let’s watch this new chapter of an old horror story and see if Laurie Strode will finally do what has to be done. I know I’ll cry a bit if she does succeed and I KNOW she’ll feel a bit sad herself, he is her brother after all. But who knows? There is ALWAYS the sequel!
